Hi Folks

Enclosed pics of the latest acquisition, described as a prototype two seater coupe Reliant FW9. I'm not sure that's the correct designation but I'm hoping the Kitten Register/ Ogle may be able to shed some light on what it is as the previous owner got nowhere through contacting Reliant. The number plate it carries isn't recognised by DVLA but interestingly enough is similar to those that were used by Reliant in the 70's. The chassis is similar to the Bond Bug with early Bug rear axle and suspension, but at the front, suprisingly, there's a solid beam axle located with Bug trailing arms facing forward! The long engine bay has space for the spare wheel ahead of the Reliant alloy engine, as on the Scimitar GTE and the Scimitar theme is carried over to the rear end styling as well. The car has a door handle on the drivers side only and different styles of extractor vent on each side as well as an unfinished interior, all of which seem to support the idea that it was created as a styling exercise.

And now for something completely different (which people may not be aware of)...

If anyone is considering buying new number plates for their classic or even modern car they'd be well advised to get them soon. When I purchased a replacement number plate for my Scimitar today, I saw a poster on the wall at the motor factors advising that from September, new replacement number plates can only be made up on production of a whole string of documents including personal I.D. vehicle registration document, certificate of insurance and valid tax disc (I'm not sure how the last two could be insisted upon as you might be in the process of renovating a vehicle that's off the road, or need to replace a damaged number plate to pass an MOT to get said tax). So the moral is that getting number plates sooner rather than later could be a lot less hassle. TTFN - Peter E

Update
- Ogle sketch of latest acquisition circa 1971-2, Tom Karen confirms that Ogle styled the body but only to clay mock up stage. I get the feeling that the car was got to its current state some years later judging by the Robin fittings inside. On investigation steering is a bit heath robinson - 3 wheeler type steering box with drop arm linked to offside front wheel then a long bar across to other wheel ; no steering rack here! - - Peter E
