I arrived late on the Friday so missed the Bar-B-Q, it was still nice
to have a drink with some of the members I had not seen since last year.
Saturday proved to be a great day as well with the road run out to Quainton Railway Museum. Due to last minute problems with his Bug, Les Gore had to leave it at home. I took Les as a passenger in my Bug on the road run, taking a short divert to a Ford Garage to pick up a header tank cap for his Orian. Even with the detour, we arrived at Quainton ahead of the Convoy.
If I remember correctly we had about 18 Bugs and a Robin complete the run, see the picture on the left. The picture on the right is of my Bug showing the real pulling power of a Bug!
Sunday, the big day.
About 37 bugs convoyed to Woburn with about 45 turning up by mid afternoon.
Tony Marshall was on hand to sign copies of his book, Microcars. The main attraction
however was Tom Karen, the designer of the Bond Bug along with other master
pieces such as the Chopper Bike. Tom spent the day talking to members, signing
their posters and in some cases their Bugs.
Well done to everyone that made it, the furthest driven was about 260 miles, the furthest travelled was about 290. I think I was probably the shortest travelled at under 15 miles. Irrespective of how far people travelled, I would like to thank everyone that did make the effort, it made it such a great day and could probably have put us in the Guiness Book of Records for the most Bugs ever gathered together in one place.
I know you would all
like to say a big thank you to the committee members such as Ivan, for organising
the event and for helping to make it a success, I would also like to extend
my personal thanks to Mandy for organising the Bug Birthday Cake, Richard and
Lin Moulds for all the time and effort I know they both put in as PRO and Area
Rep, in particular I enjoyed the late afternoon picnic they organised. Well
done to Bob who got a third for Best Bug on his first outing since getting it
MOT'd.
I did take a number of pictures of all the winners but unfortunately due to the position of the sun, they did not come out very well, sorry!
